Two Color Block Print

Artist Statement

for my animal two-color block print, i chose to do an octopus. I chose this animal because once again i like drawing a lot and i wanted to do an animal that was going to be a little challenging to draw and also that i thought would look pretty. For my Background i chose to keep it simple with some childlike "wave" lines so as to draw more attention to the octopus rather than the background. for my first print, i tried to use salmon for the octopus and a greeny black background but, when i printed it, it came out black for some reason so my first print was an accident but i ended up really liking it. for my second print, i got the salmon to work on the octopus and then i used a bright medium dark blue for the background and they tied together really nicely. (second print was my favorite). for my third print, i used a teal background and a very light yellow for the octopus and it turned out that the yellow was too light on the white paper so it didn't turn out as well as i had hoped. And finally for my fourth print i used my favorite color, purple. I made the octopus a lighter lavendery color and for the background i used a rich dark purple so that there was still a good amount of contrast even though i was using the same base color. overall my first two prints had the strongest color scheme and the last two weren't bad but i would have done them a little differently now looking back.
